Earth day is April 22nd, 2012! Speech/language students in Grades 1-5 have been learning about the steps of recycling plastic bottles, steel, class and paper/cardboard. We have read books, articles and watched short videos to help increase our knowledge of this topic. Students are also learning about John Muir, the environmentalist who started the Sierra Club. They learned that the Sierra Club is an organization with over 1 million members, developed to preserve our environment and teacher children (and adults) to care for our environment. My 5th Grade students watched a beautiful video of Yosemite National Park. This area inspired John Muir to start the Sierra Club. I think my students were also inspired by the beautiful mountains, waterfalls and streams shown in the video. The speech/language students will be ready to participate in discussions (and share their new learning) about recycling and conservation in their classroom!!

Speech and language students in grades 3-5 have been preparing for the upcoming WKCE test. We have been reviewing test vocabulary and taking practice tests during our speech time. I am pleased with my students effort and determination. Please remind them to read at home each night. This will give them the practice they need to build their reading stamina!
